Bristol is recruiting a Director of Public Health, Wellbeing and Communities to take on one of the most significant and wide-ranging roles of its kind. This is far more than a traditional DPH post. Alongside statutory public health leadership, the portfolio brings together neighbourhood and community services, domestic abuse reduction, sports services, environmental health, and community safety and resilience.

As a member of the Corporate Leadership Board, the postholder will help shape the council’s overall strategic direction and drive a place-based approach to prevention and inequality. Working across the council, with elected members under the committee system, and with partners across the BNSSG Integrated Care System, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, NHS, universities and VCSE sector, this is a rare opportunity to lead across the whole system and influence the city’s long-term direction.
