The Role

Our new Executive Director is a key appointment in enabling the Council to deliver great housing across the city.

In Bristol we are changing our approach to how we deliver housing services.  Following the recent independent strategic housing review, we are creating a separate housing directorate, headed by an Executive Director of Housing, bringing together all aspects of housing management, housing options, homelessness prevention, asset management, estates and housing delivery.

It is an exciting time to join us – housing is a key political and corporate priority, and this will be your opportunity to design and steer a newly created housing directorate in a core city for one of the largest council stock owning social landlords in the country.

In June 2024 we received a C3 judgement from the Social Housing Regulator, to which we are responding swiftly and decisively to ensure that tenants, elected Members and the regulator can be confident in the standard of the homes that we provide. We are also ambitious in our plans to develop new housing, to provide opportunities for people across our vibrant and diverse population. We are making good progress, but there is lots more to do.

We know that good housing is a key determinant of well-being and promoting positive life chances, and through your inspirational leadership you will develop an ambitious strategy for housing, empowering colleagues and partners to address the many inequalities that exist in Bristol. As a key member of our corporate leadership team, you will foster cross-council collaboration to achieve strategic aims together. Further, working with our elected Members and ensuring that we engage with residents to hear the tenant voice will be crucial to design services that are centred around the needs of the people of our city.
